Altrincham Electric Railway Preservation Group
We meet at Altrincham Methodist Church and hold monthly lectures on a Railway topic during the winter months. These are held on the second Friday of each month at 7.30 pm. Our first meeting is on Friday 13th October 2017
Our Society owns 2 railway carriages which are at the Midland Railway Centre at Butterley near Swanwich in Derbyshire. These carriages were part of an electric train which operated between Altrincham and Manchester London Road, now Piccadilly Station. They were in service from 1931 -1971 and were a very early form of train to pick up electric supply from an overhead wire. The Altrincham to Manchester Route was a pioneer in electric railways and now forms part of the Altrincham line of the Manchester MetroLink.
